Giving and Gratitude in Gambia

In a small corner of Gambia, two remarkable women—Marianne and Serena—are making a world of difference. Through their tireless volunteer work, they support not only the children of a local school and nursery, but also the families and wider community around them.

Their efforts go far beyond the classroom. With incredible dedication, they organize the shipment of large containers filled with essential supplies: sacks of rice, nutritious food, school bags, shoes, clothing, toys, and books. Once these containers arrive in Gambia, a team of volunteers helps distribute the donations to those who need them most.

The impact doesn’t stop there. Volunteers and donors from the UK have traveled to Gambia to lend a hand—renovating and furnishing new classrooms, repairing roofs, and even running first aid training for local teachers. Each act of kindness strengthens the foundation of this vibrant community.

The gratitude from the children, their families, and the teachers is overwhelming. Their joy and appreciation are a powerful reminder of how compassion and generosity can bridge continents and transform lives.

A special shout-out goes to Jane, our WSLL vice-chair, who plays a key role in this mission by sorting and sending our old kit to the charity. Her behind-the-scenes work ensures that children in Gambia receive quality sportswear and uniforms, giving them pride and confidence in their daily activities.
